Can I possibly get into Brown ED??? - PLEASE HELP

i happen to know that Brown uses a system where they rank your academics and your ECs out of 6 or so.

right now i’d say you’re 4 or 5 both academic-wise (depends on your future scores) and EC-wise. so with applying ED and all, i’d definitely give you a fighting chance.

is it really hard to get scouted for tennis? well at brown..

I think my letters will be really good - thanks for the advice. So how does Brown look at those applicants who are a 4 or a 5 out of 6?? THANKS!

again, any other advice? i know brown is a reach for me, but it’s by far my favorite school that i’ve visited so far. a bunch of the other schools are reaches too. is there anything i can do to increase my chances? also, how heavily are sat ii’s weighed?

bump…anyone???

bump again - please help!

If you are not applying for financial aid, that may help. Let them know if possible. I believe that they are the only Ivy that is not totally need blind. They need to admit enough people who can pay, because they do not have enough financial aid money available. I would avoid saying that you do not plan to play varsity tennis, if possible. Leaving it open would be better. You have nothing to lose by applying ED. But, work on other applications while waiting for the decision. Do not count on getting in. It would be great if you had a couple of other favorite schools to fall back on.

thanks ONEMOM - what do you think about my chances for Tufts (considering applying ED2), Medill at Northwestern, Georgetown, Cornell, UPenn? Those are some of the other “reach” schools I’m considering, but still think I really want to try for Brown ED

anyone else with any thoughts??

m+cr =1390 ehh its little shaky but then again the wr is amazing.

anyone else?

bump…advice, anyone?

chance me - please!!!

Tufts- good chance. Medill/Northwestern- good chance. The other three are really competitive, but I suspect that they get tons of applications from “preprofessionals”, and may be thrilled to see an application from someone whose strength is plain old writing. If you apply to Brown and all of these, you should come out all right.

If you want a barometer of your chances, I applied to Brown ED as well, was deferred in January and rejected in March. I had a 3.6 unweighted GPA at a below average rural public high school. I had 730V/660M/750W on my SAT, and 36E/30M/34RC/31S on my ACT, and was a National Merit Scholar. My ECs were pretty weak; some summer health-related programs, National Honor Society, BETA Club, school bowling team, no leadership positions among them.

Thank you so much for your input - I really appreciate it. Fried Rice, I’m sorry that you ultimately got denied from Brown -are you class of 2008? Where are you going?

I was in the graduating class of 2007. I’m at Louisiana State. Basically had the option of a financial burden at private schools or a full ride at willing public schools. I went with the home state institution.

anyone else with any thoughts on my chances at Brown ED or any of the other schools I listed?? thanks!
