This year has been hectic for me. It is so unlike me to be doing this poorly, but I am. I will admit that I spend too much time doing things that are irrelevant to my success and need to focus more on academic and extra curricular activities.
I’m taking 3 honors classes this year, a special agriculture program for 2 periods and then regular math. Next year I plan on taking 3 APs. But anyways, my GPA is currently a 3.0(I know) but my PSAT was a 1100 (I’m a sophomore). I have a D in algebra right now and the rest of my classes are Bs. It seems that no matter what I do, I can’t get these grades up. My mom passed away a year ago and it’s finally getting to me and my home life isn’t so great right now. I just can’t balance anything out and I feel very very stressed and crowded in my head. I’m not sure what to do.
Anyways, is there any possible way I could use this last quarter (around 2 months) to raise these final grades to an A and then by the end of junior year get my gpa up to a high average (like a 3.8…or so)?? Also how do I go about finding some impressive extracurriculars? Thanks for all your help.
I am also a sophomore as well so I understand where you’re coming from. Sounds like we have the same situation in terms of trying to lift up grades that seem impossible. My math grade in particular is killing me so I know the feeling. However it seems that your life outside of school has been affecting your school life in general. I suggest that finishing strong this last quarter, but then during your junior year make a big come back. Explain that your situation at home made it hard to have school as a priority. Colleges like to see you doing better than the year before, as long as you do better during your junior year it should somewhat make up for your current academic stance. Raising your current grades to an A seem slim but it’s worth a shot. Hope this helps!
Yes you can! Just work hard and stay focused. Also your extracurriculars should be something you’re passionate about not something colleges will find impressive. If you want to be a vet volunteer at your local animal shelter, if you want to be a scientist do research at a university! But never do a extracurricular to impress colleges, they will see right through that.
