can i put a website link in common app activities section?

on the common app when it asks for details, awards, accomplishments for activities, would it be acceptable to put a link to the website i made for a council/club i founded at my school? just wondering because it is a really different type of council and i don’t know if an adcom would know its purpose/mission without a longer description than what can fit on the common app space. i am planning to write my common app essay on my leadership position in said councilso hopefully that will help too.

I would not put a link. If you write your essay about it they should understand what you have done.

Does anyone on here have experience with putting a link and not having any issues?

Some colleges still use paper-based admission review, and although many have switched to computer-based screen review, the admission officers do not necessarily have the time to click on the individual link and browse through the web. Think of how much of these “external” information the applicants provide – including but not limited to links, expository writing, and additional essays.

That makes sense! Thank you for your replies @viphan & @happy1!

@viphan : so if i incorporate the information that i want admission officers to know about the council in my essays, would it still be okay to submit the link in case they do want to look at it? i’d definitely be submitting knowing that they don’t have all the time and that it is supplementary but just wondering would it look bad or hurt my application to submit? thanks so much!

You can certainly add the link. But it’s a wiser decision to utilize the word space for actually describing your accomplishments.

True. I guess I will have to work on being concise. Thanks again for the help @viphan

@asappebble - It would not surprise me if the Common App system software deleted or obfuscated any links that you might include. An embedded link is one way of hacking a University’s computer network. Even if it goes through, your application may be delayed while while University IT department checks it out. Just a thought. Good Luck.

Yikes! That would be a mess. Thank you so much for letting me know @soofdad !

alright at this point i think i will probably just mention the website in an interview or something. don’t want to risk anything. thanks again everyone for your insight!
