Can i put this on my common app / resume

Well in 10th grade I was on the Varsity Track team for almost a month. I went to practice everyday and gave it my all. However, I had a injury (sprained my ankle) and couldn't really go to any of the practices anymore, and by the time it was healed the season was over. Saying all of this, can I still put I was a member of the track team since I did attend for around a month.

I would not list this EC. Besides listing “Varsity Track”, you also have to state how many weeks and hours per week you participated and therein lies the problem. It also leaves the lingering question of “if you got injured, why didn’t you come back the following year and participate”?

Yea i listed how many 15hrs a week for 4 weeks. And i didn’t continue because the following year I went into the Full I.B program and didn’t have much time for sports.

I went into the Full I.B program and didn’t have much time for sports.

And then to that “reason” I would reply, there are plenty of (full) IB diploma applicants who participate in sports. You’re getting in deeper…

Some people are different than others, I know kids who were Full I.B and were in sports, but ended up going to sleep 3 in the morning every night after practice, and don’t seem to do as well as Full I.B kids not in sports.

Sports are really no different than many other non-athletic EC’s (MUN, mock trial, debate etc.), community service, or part-time job. It shows a commitment to something OUTSIDE the classroom. Depending on where you want to go to school, EC’s may be the difference between acceptance or rejection. Good luck.
