Syracuse University
New York Institute of Technology
Colorado State University

reach:
Carnegie Mellon University
University of Maryland
University of California Irvine

also am i on the right track in terms of picking safety, target and reach schools? or are some school that i think are safety or target are out of my league??

Carnegie Mellon is out of reach. Syracuse is a reach.

UCI admit rate for 2016 based on UC GPA (Capped/weighted) 3.40-3.79: UCI: 13%

UCI Freshman profile for 2016:
GPA and test scores of middle 25%-75% students

High School UC GPA: 3.93 - 4.22
ACT Composite Score: 25 - 32
SAT Critical Reading: 530 - 670
SAT Mathematics: 590 - 740

UCI is out of reach. Do not waste your money on the application fee.

I would only target UC Merced unless you can bump up your test scores and maybe Riverside might be an option but not for CS. CS is probably the most competitive major out there right now so stats need to be above the 50th percentile and closer to the 75th for a solid chance.

How about CSU East Bay? A respected CS program and good job prospects due to location.

What about my favorite? CSUMB? Cal State University Monterey Bay? Location and community couldn’t be nicer. From their website: <<the computer="" science="" &="" information="" technology="" major="" takes="" students="" from="" problem-solving="" and="" programming="" to="" understanding="" the="" ethical="" social="" implications="" of="" in="" our="" lives.="" can="" choose="" concentrations="" networks="" security,="" systems,="" software="" engineering,="" or="" game="" development.="">>

I agree with other comments. You can apply to UCI and CMU if you want but you would be wasting the money. Syracuse is a reach for you. I also think that San Fran State is a low match, not a safety.

As others have said, Syracuse should be considered as a reach. But, still apply, because you never know what could happen. Chance me too? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1997468-im-tensed-i-need-help-please-chance-me.html#latest

Are you a CA resident?

nope I live in MD

If you are a MD resident, then SFSU is not a safety. Safeties need to be affordable (OOS tuition/room/board etc…) so SFSU would cost you close to $40K/year to attend. Unless your parents have deep pockets, you need to find some other schools besides California publics to apply.

no financial aid for OOs students in CA publics.
