Can I refuse to pay for the SAT waitlist?

Hello,

I took the December 2nd SAT without the essay under the waitlist status. As per rules of waitlist, you first pay 1 dollar upon registration and then pay the full price after your test has been received by the CollegeBoard. As of now, the test has been received by the CollegeBoard and they are letting me know that the results will be available to me after I fulfill the payment in full. However, I already know I failed the test. Can I let them keep my test scores and refuse to pay for the test? If I do so, will I face consequences? This is not done because of ill intentions - SAT fee is a huge burden on my family and since I know fully I have failed it, can I do as I have mentioned?

I guess they can’t force you to pay. I suppose the problem will be if you try to take it again, they will possibly not let you sign up. Did you ask for the fee waiver from your school? Usually it’s a pretty simple process. You need to talk to the guidance counselor.

You signed up for wait list and then took the test. That was what you were playing for and not the quality of the score you earned. I find it hard to believe that you are the only one to avoid payment and SAT lacks a remedy for dealing for nonpayment. Perhaps you can get a fee waiver even now, but don’t depend on it. I f you had earned fabulous scores, you would have paid already. Just pay the people because you got what you you wanted…an opportunity to take the test.
