I have just finished my first semester of college as a Bio major. I have a B+ in my Chemistry class (3 credits), a B+ in my Writing II class (3 credits), a A+ in my Chem lab (1 credit), and a B+ in my Psychology class (3 credits)… And a D in my Calculus A class (4 credits).
I was doing somewhat well in the class with a 78, but the final was worth 60% of our grade… and I got a 19/100 on it. My mother had been sent into the hospital for emergency surgery two hours before the final and I was far too anxious to function properly. What should I do? I’m freaking out - I need to maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA in order to keep my scholarship.
You need to talk to your professor and adviser ASAP regarding your mother’s situation on the day of your math final to see if a retake or anything can be done.
It may be too late to remediate the grade after the end of the term but most universities give you the possibility to repeat a course in which you did poorly and possibly even expunge the first grade from the GPA. Check with your advisor.
