Can I send ACT ONLY?

I just sent my ACT to Penn during the weekend and would like to get your thoughts on the following paragraph post on UPenn's website. Does it mean that I have to send all SAT AND ACT scores? I was thinking of only submitting my ACT instead of both.

==========================

Penn requires either the SAT Reasoning Test and two SAT Subject Tests OR the ACT with Writing. No preference is given to either test. However, Penn requires that applicants submit all testing results from each administration of the ACT, SAT, and SAT Subject Tests.

When I was there two weeks ago, someone asked this question specifically – and the guy did NOT say you also had to send the SAT if you’re submitting the ACT. However, he made it seem like it was heavily encouraged. I’ve read a lot of conflicting stuff on CC about this, but I emailed, called, and heard the admissions staff–and I’ve never been told to send the SAT stuff if you’re planning on using the ACT.

The wording is pretty vague. My counselor tells students to pick one test, but then send everything from that particular company. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful…

If you only want to send your ACT, then you don’t have to send the SAT

octobergirl92 and jgraider, this is very helpful. Thank you so much!

But if I have to send Subject SAT for the dual-degree program, I guess I have to submit ALL SAT tests, including SAT reasoning as well.

The last sentence is not very vague to me. Maybe it is just me but it is very clear and straight forward.

It’s not vague. It’s saying that whatever test you choose to send (whether it be the ACT or SAT), that you send all the scores you have received from that test. So if you took the ACT four times, send ALL four results and they will look at the highest. I encourage you not to take the ACT that many times, though.

eagertolearn, somehow I don’t read it that way. How could all tests from X, Y and Z means all tests from either X or Y or Z?

“However, Penn requires that applicants submit all testing results from each administration of the ACT, SAT, and SAT Subject Tests.”

That’s not what I’m saying. You have to take EITHER the SAT or the ACT (both with subject tests). If you decide to take the SAT, send ALL of your SAT scores (“requires that applicants submit all testing results”) from each time you have taken it (“from each administration of…”). I don’t know if that helped at all…Maybe it is vague?

There is no EITHER in the second sentence, the word EITHER is in the first sentence:

“Penn requires either the SAT Reasoning Test and two SAT Subject Tests OR the ACT with Writing. No preference is given to either test.”

Then in the second sentence, you must send all scores from all tests you have taken, thus the use of the word “However”. It is pretty clear to me. Maybe it is not clear when you don’t want to comply.

I’m not condoning any lying, but when I went to Penn for an information session, they seemed pretty clear that you did not need to send both, just saying.
I’m sending both, however.

After placing a call to the undergrad admission office, I was told to send EVERYTHING. SAT & ACT from all test dates. No picking and choosing.

ttparent I think we are just saying the same thing. And it is clear whether you want to comply or not. You SELF REPORT your scores…

Ortsac is right. SEND IN EVERYTHING. That’s exactly what I said above.

You may have intended to say the same thing but I don’t follow, you exactly said:

“It’s saying that whatever test you choose to send (whether it be the ACT or SAT), that you send all the scores you have received from that test.”

I am not sure how anyone can interpret that as sending everything. When it comes to the act of sending, there is no choosing. You can choose only with the act of taking as long as you meet the requirement of the first sentence. Not to belabor the point, but I think you understand why I disagreed with your wordings.

SEND EVERYTHING. or else if they find out they will not review your app.
