<p>Depends on college so check with ones you are applying to. Many require the completed application (including essays) by the deadline date but other things like test scores, transcript and rec letters can arrive afterwards (although usually not too long afterwards). However, some require everything by the date and some may require the application plus something else like a transcript by the application date.</p>
<p>Also, you mentioned sending the common app. Many colleges that accept that have a supplemental app that also has to be submitted and very often that must also be submitted by the deadline date.</p>
