I can tell that this forum gets a lot of these type of questions. I don't know how to make this question interesting. I would do a little dance to prevent the moans and groans that usually follow "chances" threads... that is if I could dance.

I suppose my infinite gratitude must suffice.

Basically I have applied to UCLA (biz-econ) with 44 units, intending to transfer as a junior from a California community college.
Of the major prep courses I have taken all but 2nd semester calculus and Managerial Accounting.

My high school GPA is nothing worth mentioning. My current GPA is 3.88 non-TAP certified. The only B on my transcript was received in an introduction to Korean class, because I couldn't take the final due to short-term activation. (What's funny is that I speak the language.)

I am currently serving in the United States Marine Corps. Reserve. And work nearly full time at my mother's place of business. She is a single parent.

I am debating whether or not to apply to USC due to financial concerns. Initially, I thought that I would be content attending my "safety" choices, however upon further reflection USC is sounding better and better. This is why if I do apply I'll be applying very late.

In a nutshell the questions I have are.

Can I get into UCLA? what are my chances?
Should I apply to USC? will there be any repercussions for late application?
and
Could I be accepted? what are my chances?

I'm really in the dark here. Would you lend me a hand? (does a little jig* )

Note: this thread was first posted in the general transfer student section. However, I believe that it is more relevant in here, I apologize for any inconvenience.

3.88 is a very strong GPA. I'm not sure how impacted biz-econ is(assist.org says highly selective), but regardless you're at the level where good soft factors could carry it.

If you'll complete IGETC by the end of Spring '08
and, you'll complete all major pre-reqs by the end of Spring '08
and, you'll have 60 credits by the end of Spring '08,
then you'll have a very good chance at UCLA, particularly if you got out a good essay.

Others will be able to advise you about USC, but if you're still able to apply then I'd say do it. It could buy you an attractive opportunity, if you're turned down by UCLA. $100 or so isn't much in the scheme of getting into a good college.

If you want to get in at UCLA for your major then you should complete all major pre-reqs by Spring '08. Being a highly selective major it will really count against you if you don't. I'd also recommend IGETC, show them you're ready to go. Might look at online classes if there's anything you just can't fit.

Hope this helps, and would be happy to answer any other questions. (;

"Can I get into UCLA?" - Yes
"what are my chances?" - I'd say good as long as you finish 2nd semester calculus and Managerial Accounting (extremely important that you complete these)

With regards to the USC questions, you'd probably find information in the transfer forum. I'd personally say apply if you can.

Sorry I did not read your post good enough. It is very important that you have your 2nd semester of calc and managerial accounting done by spring. It will help you out tremendously. I would say you have a good shot at UCLA and a good shot at USC even though Marshall school of business is competitive.

Do you mean that you think USC would be too expensive? USC is one of about 20 schools that is committed to keeping students from having to go to private lenders. They met 100% of need in 2006/2007 (according to US News). UCLA met 82% of need. So, if you are concerned with cost you will probably actually have an easier time paying for USC.
