Can I/ Should I transfer?

I screwed up my first semester of college and got a 2.52 gpa. I was undecided but I was trying to get into the business school. I took a harder math class and an econ class I just really had no interest in.I also somehow placed into a spanish class that was too advanced for me. Aside from that I lived at home and had some family problems. I improved second semester and made the Dean's List with a 3.68. I go to a small private university near home but I'm really looking for a change of environment. I'm hoping to transfer to another university in California for fall 2010. I was a tutor for an early literacy program both semesters so that's my only ec. I'm obviously trying to continue improving my gpa in the fall and I might take some summer classes if I can't get a summer job. What are my chances for UCLA, UCSB, UCI, UCSD, and USC as an Art History major? I'm not really that unhappy with my current university. I just feel that if I have the opportunity to start over somewhere else I should. But do I even have a chance?

It’s tough a road for you since you don’t have transfer priority to UC’s because your a private school applicant. Just improve your GPA, do well in the transfer prerequisites for Art History and you may have a better chance. Go to the USC Transfer Thread to ask what the particular prereqs for Roski is for USC. As for the UC’s go to the UC transfer forum and ask around.

The best thing to do is call and ask the particular schools you wish to transfer to which prereqs are required and the average amit rate for that major.
