Can I SIR to 2 UC's?

I’ve read multiple threads about this but all the threads were from years ago so I don’t want to base my decision off of outdated material.
Here’s my dilemma:
I am a transfer student and I have already submitted my SIR to UCI. Unfortunately, I currently have a C in Calculus 2 and I honestly don’t know if that will change or not. My transfer conditions state that I must get at least a B in that course or my admission could be rescinded. My semester doesn’t end until next week so I won’t know my final grade until then. The deadline to SIR is tonight so I was wondering if I should also SIR to UCSD just to be safe? I would withdraw one SIR within a week but I’ve heard different things in regards to what happens if one does submit 2 SIR’s. Many say the campuses just approach you and ask you which one you have chosen and may make you write a letter to each campus, while others have said both applications can get rescinded. Does anyone know what the deal with that is?

No SIRing to 2 UC’s could result in you being rescinded from both if caught. I would not take the chance.

are you sure? have you heard of that happening to anyone? all I keep seeing people say is that they had to write a letter

This is from the UC website:::

You may accept admission to one campus only. You may not transfer your acceptance from one campus to another after you declare your intent to register. A $250 nonrefundable deposit must accompany your acceptance.

@savtransfer: I saw the post about getting a letter for SIRing to 2 campuses. That individual did originally SIR to 2 UC campuses but withdrew one of the SIR’s before the letter was sent. Basically the UC’s did find out about both SIR’s and I am sure they probably would have rescinded that applicant if they had not already withdrawn from one campus. Also this was posted 7 years ago. Things have dramatically changed within the UC system so it is up to you if you want to take the chance.

There is something called integrity which you seem to lack at the moment. Hopefully you will do the right thing.

Integrity? Did you not read my explanation? I fully intend on withdrawing one SIR within a week once I receive my final grade. I came here because I’m honestly concerned that I may not meet the transfer conditions. Read closely before you go around wrongfully bashing people.

No, you cannot SIR to two different universities. The only time you get a pass is when you have SIR’d to one school and you have sent out an appeal to another. If by some chance the school that rejected you approves your appeal, then you’re given the okay. Other than that, you cannot.

Once you sign a SIR, you have more or less committed to that school. It is signing a contract. The UC system does not want students just SIR to multiple universities because one school has one type of verbiage in their contract and another has something else.

If you’re going to withdraw your SIR to UCI, then you’ll likely have to write a reason why. And saying something in the lines of. “…I visited UCSD and I felt it would fit me better” won’t work because they’ll exactly know why you withdrew your SIR. They’ll see that maintaining a 3.0 was in your contract and you didn’t do that.

You need to ride it out and let UCI know if you got a C. You do not want to get rescinded from both schools and might have to re-apply next year. I am not sure if this will go into their records or not, but it won’t look good.

Best of luck.

I just asked my counselor this afternoon and she said NO

I’m maintaining a 3.0, I have A’s in my other 3 classes but a C in calc so a 3.3 for the semester but a 3.6 overall. Thank you for your input, by any chance have you actually heard of cases where people have gotten their admissions rescinded?

Yes, I read your explanation. You cannot have it both ways and game the system. Accept UCI’s provisional admission contract or UCSD’s.

@lemmewait I messaged my admissions counselor on the UCI portal and he said it is okay as long as you “withdraw one later.” I also went to UCI earlier and spoke to them and they said in most cases students will just get an email asking them to confirm. I am still worried, however, so I don’t think I’ll go through with it

SIR to both and send an email to both and explain you are withdrawing in the next few days. Explain the dilemma that you need to verify you get into one. After all these years stalking up here I’ve yet to ever see anyone kicked out if they explain why - and that they’re not gaming the system. You will lose $250, though.

Sorry - just saw your post. That’s exactly what happens. They send an email. That’s why they raised the SIR from $100 to $250 to help prevent those that just do it because they’re morons who can’t make up their minds. The UCs are sympathetic to issues where things aren’t solidified.

It doesn’t benefit the UC to kick someone out on their butt because they need another week to verify a grade, or if they’re wating to find out if a grade will be accepted that is contrary to provisional. In fact, it would make them look like as*****s to be so cold-hearted.

@ohm888 thank you so much! This was the most helpful answer I’ve seen yet. I was thinking the same thing because no one has actually said they got their admissions rescinded, just a bunch of people warning against it. It does make sense that they raised the deposit so much because of the reason you provided. My parents keep telling me to go ahead and do it since $250 is nothing in comparison to a future where I may have to stay back at CC for another year. Thanks so much for your input, I really appreciate it!

also, do you think I should email both schools now? Or should I just wait until they approach me? Which hopefully they won’t even do since I’ll withdraw one very soon.

Yes, just double SIR. All these people go psycho when it’s brought up - and I agree, you should not game the system because you can’t decide - which tons of people did when it was $100. It would go on for weeks with their getting repeated emails and still not withdrawing from one. I do not condone that, and while I never saw any of those people even kicked out, it could happen.

But in your case - you already have UCI saying it’s OK. Regarding UCSD, if it’s just a few days, I’d just sit tight and wait, probably. (The guy who dragged his double SIR for like a month was doing it to UCLA and UCSD. They both let it slide forever with more and more emails, so i don’t see UCSD dumping you in a week with no warning.)

I’ll get grief for this - but I know you will be OK.

Looks like you got the answer you were hoping for, it took a few tries but after a few replies, you got the answer you wanted.

Go through the older CC forums about this topic.

https://www.google.com/#q=Can+your+SIR+TO+TWO+UC%27S+site:talk.collegeconfidential.com

All those links say what i just said. No one got rescinded. So your point is? And please let UCI know they’re wrong. Your answer was so condescending.

I kept 2 SIR’s for about a month until I found out my last grade

@enpz45 what year was that? and there were no repercussions?

@Tik1127 pretty sure I already stated that I didn’t want to base my decision off of outdated threads. nice one though.

@Ohm888

Nothing I stated was condescending. Remember, this is a forum and numerous people had replied on this forum. The poster clearly was looking for something to settle his/her mind, and that is understandable, he/she is worried about not keeping their promise to UCI by getting a C. If you saw it as condescending then my apologies.

@savtransfer

Best of luck to you at UCI or UCSD.

@tiki1127 my apologies. I read it as some kind of attack on me - well after enough responses, you finally got the answer you were looking for. Sorry. No worries. :x
