So I went to college for about 3 weeks, and I withdrew because the financial aid office was so unorganized and basically gave me no aid after I spoke with them several times and was told it would be taken care of. So now they’re telling me that I still have to pay the entire semester’s tuition in order to get transcripts. However, I don’t necessarily need transcripts because I don’t have any grades, right? So I was wondering if I could apply to a new school for the Spring semester and just apply as a freshman and ‘start over’ (even tho I never really started lol) would my new college find out about my old one? And would I still be able to get financial aid?
You don’t want to lie about not having attended college before. If you officially withdrew, it may be possible to apply as a freshman again, but you really have to clear up the part about paying for the tuition. Was there a withdraw deadline you missed? Is there info anywhere about what happens with withdrawals and refunds at your school?
You can’t just ignore it. Colleges check a central database to see if students have prior college (and owe $). You’ll need to contact the first school and clear up the billing issues. If you actually withdrew then it should be easy.
I did withdraw, but every time I call them they are still saying I have to pay for the entire semester.
I was told different things, the financial aid office said I would have to pay a “small fee” but now, I’m getting told I have to pay the whole semester
Did you get them in writings?
No, no one ever gave me anything. That school is so much bs
You need to go and meet with the bursars office in person. Bring copies of any emails or other written responses that you have received. Until this is sorted out, you can’t go back to college at any place where you would need financial aid.
You need documentation that you withdrew formally from this college, and that you did so before any grades were generated. You also need documentation that there are no bills still due.
The school is 15 hours away from me, I can’t go in person. I have documentation and my withdrawal was processed before it was even a month into school, I don’t understand why I have to pay the entire semester when I left because of financial reasons.
Email the bursar’s office and attach the proof of withdrawal.
This isn’t a for-profit, is it?
If it’s a legit school it’ll take some back and forth but it’ll clear up.
