Hi! I am currently in my first semester in a state university, and I want to know if I can still apply as freshman if I file a leave of absence immediately after my first semester or if I am automatically considered under the transfer admission process regardless of the length of my stay in my current university.
I am aware of the tighter competitoon in the transfer admission process, so I am hoping I can still be qualified for freshman application if I only finish one semester (not a full academic year) of college.
I was initially planning to take a gap year after my highschool graduation but was pressured into enrolling in a university in my country, and now I am feeling extremely lost and regretful for not going for what I really wanted. This has been bugging me for the past three months of my stay in my current university, and I can’t fully be happy and productive because of it.
I’d be glad to receive as much info/inisight as possible so I could better assess my situation and decide what course of action I should take.
No, you are automatically a transfer student once you start at another university. Depending on which schools you want to transfer to, they may want 30+ hours of work before you can transfer. Check each school’s guidelines,
Another aspect of transferring to consider is cost. Transfers generally don’t get good aid.
Whether you are considered a freshman applicant or a transfer depends on the place you apply to. You need to ask each of your targets what their policy is. Some places do not consider a student a transfer until they have completed the equivalent of a full year of credits. Other places will consider a student a transfer if they have taken one college credit after graduating from high school.
