I am currently a junior in high school with a freshman GPA of 2.71 and a sofomore GPA of 2.13. I know that for penn state, to have a real chance of getting in, you should have a 3.6 GPA and a 1260 sat score on the 1600 scale. Here is how I am trying to fix it. I am trying to get all straight A’s this year and sign up for as many honors courses as I possibly can so then I can get a weighted GPA. I am thinking about retaking as many courses as I can during the summer and replace as many of my grades with A’s. And get all A’s next year and because I am taking honors courses, if I get all A’s, I could get a GPA of 4.4 on my senior year. So with a freshman GPA of 2.71, and I go to summer school and make my Sophomore at least a GPA of 3.33, Junior GPA of 4.0, and a senior GPA of 4.4, I think I should get a 3.6 cumulative GPA, And with a 1400 SAT score or higher, would I have great chances of getting into penn state main campus? Along with my Eagle Scout, playing football, and lots of cumminuty service hours? I just really hope it’s not too late to bring up my GPA, I’m very nervous.
Problem is, you’ll be applying in the fall of your senior year. You’ll have freshman, sophomore, junior, and post-junior summer school grades – no senior grades.
The upside is that going to a branch for two years and main for the rest would still be an option for you.
.
So senior year doesn’t even matter you’re saying? I find that very hard to beleive, so if that happens to be the truth, then I’ve been given false hope. I thought that they look at half of your senior year.
How do you find it hard to believe? Everyone applies to college during fall of senior year. You won’t have any senior-year grades when you apply. That’s just common sense. You’ll have just started your senior classes.
No, I’m a junior right now, but I’m going to be a senior next year
First of all, i know for a fact that colleges look the first semester of your senior year
All I’m asking are my chances of getting into main campus
One of the big mistakes that some high school seniors make is to assume that junior grades are all-important and that senior grades aren’t on the transcripts that colleges see. On the contrary, first-semester senior grades can be critical in the admission process. Even early decision candidates usually find that their first-quarter senior marks come under scrutiny.
Penn State’s application deadline is November 30th. Will you have finished first semester by then?
My schools semester ends in January
So no, you will not have any finalized senior grades until January – past the deadline for applying. So when you apply, your school MAY send in-progress grades, or they may only send final grades – you’d have to ask. And your calculation includes SPRING senior-year grades as well, presumably, which you can certainly see you will not have before Penn State decides whether to admit you.
Here’s what I’ll do, I’ll ask my school counselor and when I go to your the campus, I’ll ask about that and we’ll see what happens.
Sounds good.
