Can I still be accepted into a UC with Cs

I'm a sophomore and I got 3 Cs my freshman year and 1 C in geometry and I'm going to major in business any help or advice would be great

Take around 5-6 AP’s junior year and get all A’s BOTH Junior and Senior year. Colleges will see the upward trend with the difficult classes which would give you a chance. I got 1 C freshman year also in geometry =(

^
How could you possibly suggest to get all A’s in 5-6 APs per year to someone that hasn’t had stellar academic performance in the past? That’s absolutely ridiculous.

OP, you could probably get into one of the lower UCs like Riverside or Merced if you step it up. Don’t expect to be accepted into any of the moderate to highly selective ones. If you want to go to UCB or UCLA, your best bet is a cc for two years and then apply.

Okay this is insane. You’re basically saying 4 C’s and no UCLA?

Kid, step it up. Try your hardest, stay afterschool for tutoring, whatever. Bring all of your grades up. Colleges like upward trends.

And heck, maybe you can’t get into berkeley, but UCLA and others are a shot (:

Until OP gives us his GPA, it should be assumed that there are also a lot of B’s in the mix if he’s getting C’s. The average GPA for UCLA is 3.88 unweighted (http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/faq/FR_Not_Adm.htm</a>). Upward trends are good, but they do not make colleges disregard past academic performance.

So, yes. I am “basically” saying that.

is that weighted or unweighted GPA?—^

yeah you can still be accepted.

UC gpa is only calculated with grades from your last three years of hs. there is no requirement about having a minimum number of C’s, only a GPA requirement (that the output of their calculation of your gpa is > 3.0).

but even that is not a strict requirement - you can qualify with test scores alone if your gpa is < 3.0. In that case you have to have something like > 1900 on the SAT.

barely qualifying won’t guarantee you a spot at one of the better UC’s, but it will guarantee you a spot at * a * UC.

also i would say that you almost need a 3.4+ UW to get into any of the better ones from looking at past year’s result threads.
