I took Chem 1A at Berkeley in Fall 2014 I got a NP. This summer 2015 I am retaking Chem 1A and so far I have B in the class. i think in just short amount time I am able to catch up a lot and do better than last year. I know i don’t have an A but can I still be premed? Will the administration look at this as a bad thing?
What matters is whether medical schools will see it as a bad thing.
https://services.aamc.org/AMCAS2_2009/WebApp/Help/WebHelp/GPA_Calculations.htm indicates that P and NP grades are not counted in pre-med GPA. However, a B grade is below the typical GPA needed to have a good chance of medical school admission – you need to aim higher in future course work, particularly biology, chemistry, physics, and math course work.
