can I still get a masters degree if my first degree is a business degree

I intend to major in business with specialization in finance. I'm very set on getting a masters in upon graduation. However, it seems a bit redundant for someone who already has a business degree to get a MBA. Is my chances of getting a masters degree slim?

No. I have a BBA in finance and International Business and I am currently in an MBA program. I was also admitted to a JD program (several in fact) I didn’t complete because I found that I’m not interested in being a lawyer. Before I started the MBA I explored several programs. I chose between the MBA, MS Applied Financial Economics, the MSF, and the MSFE. I chose the MBA because it is more suitable to my career path as the owner of a registered investment adviser and my interests in operating private equities in foreign direct investment and real estate. It strengthens my credentials. As a business manager, investment manager, and business/financial consultant to my portfolio projects.

My favorite alternative was the MS Financial Economics. You can do most any masters degree you want. You may need some extra credits for some like MSFE which requires programming and more advanced calculus than what you get in undergrad finance.

I’m capable of programming. For example I designed my business web site with some of my own HTML, I’m also familiar with RATS for economic time series analysis, and I did some self study C+ programming to see If I would like it. The MSFE at my alma matter requires a background in C# programming.

You need the programming to set up algorithms to test and analyze your financial models. I like programming for more solid understanding of financial widgets and tools I use and can now create for my less exciting, but just as important, financial planning and wealth management clients.
