Can I still get housing? Freaking out, please help!

Hello to the wonderful people of CC. Prior to June 1, I had received my housing offer (it was my first choice) and I accepted it, inputting a valid credit card number to pay the $300 deposit. Just today I checked my housing application, and it says "currently not available" with a message saying something along the lines of "past deadline, your offer has been rescinded".

I am totally lost. It appears as if they have never received my housing acceptance, even though I clearly remember accepting the offer. I am freaking out at this point... I won't be able to attend Cal without a dorm because my parents simply won't be able to afford it. I cannot believe this is happening. I feel like the last four years of my life now mean nothing. Can the housing office still fix this? The housing application deadline for transfer students was just two days ago so I'm assuming there's still open dorms. I couldn't care less if I can't get my first choice ... at this point I just want housing!

I'm a nervous wreck right now. Can someone please offer me their advice? Do you guys think they'll fix it? Any input is appreciated ... thank you.

You should not be asking us. You should be calling and emailing the housing office ASAP and explaining your situation.

I don’t know when they’re open, check their website for when the office is open.

Also, I think there’s a good chance you will be able to get housing in Foothill/Clark Kerr - I doubt you will get a dorm in the units.

If you make it clear you will take ANY room (even a triple, etc…), I think you will probably get something.

And if after you call they tell you they have no spots, the key is to keep bugging them and checking up with them. I know someone who was already able to transfer from Foothill/Bowles to one of the units because he called them four times and emailed them several times. He also made it clear that he would accept a triple.

And if after the first time you call, and they tell you they can’t help you, while you’re bugging them, also start trying to find housing in an apartment. You need to start looking ASAP, because most good apartments for the next school year will have been taken by now. However, you will need to do a lot of research into how the whole renting process works (i.e. your parents will probably have to cosign, etc…)
You should find a roommate (or several roommates). You can see what resources Berkeley has, or what people you can find on Berkeley’s Facebook groups, etc.
Apartment housing is almost always cheaper than dorm housing, by the way (assuming you have roommates)

Be calm. Even if they lost your housing offer it can actually be significantly cheaper than a dorm

They have technical glitches fairly often and do mess things up. I actually completely missed the deadline to accept my dorm offer and freaked out when I realized it weeks later. I ended up getting the same dorm assignment I had originally gotten, although both my roommates were FPF students. Get in contact with the housing office, but stop panicking!

Also if you really don’t end up getting any dorm (which is highly unlikely), your other options like getting a room in an apartment with some upperclassmen will be cheaper than dorms.

hellothere5 and flutterfly are right. Try to calm down and start emailing/calling the appropriate people. Even if your offer is gone, you can still live in an apartment for a much cheaper price. Don’t fret, I am sure they will find a way to fix it for you.

Also, didn’t you receive a confirmation email when you sent in the $300 deposit? If you got that, then no need to fret.

After looking through my email I can’t seem to find a confirmation … hopefully this won’t cause a problem :/. Their office opens 10am tomorrow so I’ll be calling them right when I wake up. Hopefully they’ll give me a dorm. Thanks for the input, guys. I’ll be sure to update you all on how it goes.

If you can’t find a place in the dorms, try private dorms like The Berk ([The Berk – Berkeley, CA](http://www.theberkatcal.com)). they will save you a put you in a very nice dorm.

Update: I called them today and they simply reinstated the offer. I got my first choice for a dorm! Once again, thank you everyone for the feedback!
