I had all A’s and B’s freshman year. I’m a sophomore rightnow and I’m failing half my classes am I still able to make it to a CSU? I’m taking an AP class next year and AVID. Can someone help me out please!
:((
If you are failing, no, probably not. Perhaps take the CC route and transfer. For the meantime, do your best to pass your classes and avoid taking APs if you can’t handle the coursework.
In anyway? Not even by taking extra classes?
CSUs admit based on numbers including SAT/ACT and GPA. Of course, you shouldn’t take easy classes either to boost your GPA. Do whatever you have to to raise your GPA to have a good chance, but if not, I agree with Katecat.
I see thank you guys and its 2 F’s actually I just checked but I’m going to get those up. Thank you so much I’ll be taking AP Lang next year.
No, extra classes won’t help failing grades. If you are struggling to pass your classes as is, how do you suppose doing better with more work? Like iamsaucy says, CSUs are heavily dependent on GPA. How high is your SAT? That may be able to compensate a bit. I think CSUs use the formula of CSU weighted GPAx800 + SAT (CR+M). You can try to calculate your eligibility based on that for the campus you are interested in. I’d think about your local CC.
You have to earn a C or better in all the courses listed on the a-g course list. If you don’t - you won’t be admitted to a CSO, no matter what your GPA and test scores. You can re-take the class and replace a failing grade.
As a sophomore, you have time to change course. If you are struggling academically right now, don’t take any AP classes next year. Focus on earning solid grades in the required classes - perhaps re-take your F in a summer class.

I’m taking summer school both semesters this year and next year and I wanna try to get in to CSULB , CSULA , CSUSM , CSUF or CSUDH
So how many AP classes should I take to get in a CSU?
@Lshigh99
None. Work on retaking those you failed and completing a-g with better grades.
So AP classes I wouldn’t need for a CSU?
It depends. I failed AP Chem and a 3,.35 GPA overall with 1770 SAT and got into CSUSB and SFSU but rejected in SDSU. if you redeem yourself in junior year as well as trying to fix your current grades I say you have a chance
Okay thank you @Drninja88888 that was my plan but everyone kept telling me it wouldn’t matter
If you have a CSU near you, make an appointment with and admissions counselor and discuss it with them.
The admission formula for CSUs is really simple. If you’ve completed the a-g courses, they rank you by calculating an Eligibility Index as relayed in post 5 above. You are much better served by an A in a non-AP class than a C or worse in AP. It is that simple. Here is a link to more info on the CSU site.

If you bury yourself with really time consuming course-work, you will kill your GPA and your chances for CSU admission.
Yes you can. I got an F and D my sophomore year but then I took 4 AP classes and became president of a lot of clubs/programs during junior-senior year. I got in CSUN, CSUF, CSULB, UCR, UCI, and UCSB. Cal state is not holistic so you don’t really get to explain why you did bad, but UC’s are. As long as your transcript shows that you’re progressive then you’ll be fine! Also, I failed chemistry sophomore year and replaced that failure with an A both semesters in ap physics junior year. Talk to your counselor! They’re always helpful.
