Hey everyone, i was just wondering if I would still be able to get into a ivy league or good atleast a good university. My gpa at the end of my freshman year was an astonishing .77, something im not too proud of. I'm not going into full detail as to why, but to kind of summarize, my mother and I were going through a financial hardship about two years ago. With not too many options available, I had to pull through and try to make an income to support the both of us. Ultimately, all the focus on money resulted in a unfortunate priority drop in education and a devastating toll to my gpa. I'm currently beginning my junior year in high school and my gpa has risen to a 2.3 since. Hypothetically, if i get straight a's from here on out till i apply to colleges and get a nearly perfect score on sat and acts, what are my chances? I am taking 4 ap's this year (ap bio, eng/lit, gov, and psych) and play on taking another 4-5 next year. Money is no longer an issue as i have achieved financial stability at age 16, (making a 6 figure salary and supporting both me and my mom), so my focus is now solely geared towards academics. Im about to be a signed a record deal with jive records as a singer/producer/songwriter, however my ultimate careers goals are going to be in politics in the far future. I plan on including a very well in depth and elaborate essay with regards to my academic career, however its just making me have some
sleepless nights thinking that i i might not make it into even any college accept for community college.
-Thanks for the help

Actually, I think you can work your application so that you have a strong chance of getting in. Getting straight-As and near-perfect standardized test scores is an extreme long shot, so don’t bank on the fact that you’d have extremely high stats that could bring up your cumulative GPA to the middle 50% range (but that doesn’t mean you can’t still do extremely well). Explain that your grades were low because you were going through extremely difficult times, but DEFINITELY show them how successful you are now, both financially and academically, to show how you’ve overcome significant adversity. The ADCOMs will love it, and you’d have a very strong chance of admission.

That is an amazing story! I think you have a chance if you either wrote an essay explaining your situation or getting a GC to write one. Try to get that GPA up at least to a 3. Use your past as a hook and universities will see that you are committed enough to earn a 6 figure salary! Your chances at an Ivy school are slim but then again, everyone’s chances are too! However, I think you will have a good chance an a good university. PM me if you want advice or if you have more questions I am also applying to college soon.
