Hi,

I really want to go to one of the above schools, but I am worried because there is a B on my transcript from freshman year in geometry. I was having a lot of personal issues that year so I ended up with like an 86 average, but I haven't gotten any B's in anything since then. I am a junior now, and I have a 5.31 out of 6 weighted, 4.0 unweighted, and I'm in the top 4 percent of a competitive high school. I have had all my class semester averages above 95 and I'm taking 3 ap sciences this year which I've gotten above 95s all year. I would be close to valedictorian if my grades weren't so mediocre freshman year, but I still moved up from the 12th to the 4th percentile in one year. I also got a 2220 on the SAT, but I plan on retaking it for a 2300. Do I still have a decent chance of getting into any of those schools with a B on my transcript?

None of the UCs consider freshman year grades so long as you passed all of your A-G classes.

How do you have a 4.0 unweighted if you had a B freshmen year?

One B does not count as “mediocre” grades.

A 2220 is fine. The difference between that and a 2300 is so minuscule that its not wort the the 3 hours of testing time.

Yes you can get into any one of those schools with a B on your transcript.

I still have a 4.0 unweighted because I’ve gotten a 100 in 14 of my classes since.

That still doesn’t make an sense unless your school gives extra UW points to your GPA for getting an A+.

4.0 means you have only gotten A’s. Unless your GPA is so close that it rounds to 4.0, you shouldn’t have a 4.0.

Guess the way my school does it is different. The salutatorian has a 4.0 unweighted and he got a b in Spanish freshman year.
