Can i still get into Med School?

I will be a sophomore next fall and I am a Biology/Pre med major. In my first semester, fall 2011, my GPA was a 3.2 and for I spring semester i'm afraid that i'll receive a 2.8 GPA for both semesters. I got a D in Chemistry and a C in biology. I'm planning to retake chemistry this fall but sadly i can't do anything about biology. I'm afraid that with grades like this I wont be able to get into medical school. I love the medical profession and it's the only thing that I've ever wanted to do. I know that I'm still in the early years of my undergrad so i may be able to get my GPA up but will this effect my getting into med school.
p.s i took 17 hours this spring semester while at the same time caring for my 4 year old sister, working and living at home. I think that i overdid it with my classes so next semester i plan on taking only 12 hours.
It would be very comforting if someone else who's been in a similar solution and is willing to share their experience with me. I don't want to reach my senior year only to be rejected from medical school.

Unfortunately, a 3.0 GPA is not going to cut it. You really need to step it up and get a nice upward trend going. Yes, it sounds like you have a lot going on in your life, but they cannot be excuses for poor grades. Medical school is a lot tougher than undergrad, and you need to prove to adcoms that you can handle a tough curriculum.

You also might want to consider DO school, if you have not already. They replace grades when you retake classes, and MD schools do not (the grades are both put into your GPA). In addition, start building up extracurricular activities after you have a handle on your coursework.

To get a sense of what it takes I suggest that you look up the admission profile at your state medical schools. My local medical school average GPA is 3.61 and MCAT is 32.
