Can I still get into these schools?

Hello,

I'm a junior in highschool interested in UCSB, UCSD, University of Washington, Stanford, Northwestern, UCLA, Tufts, and UC Davis. Unfortunately, I was recently suspended from school for drugs. Assuming nothing like this happens again, what are my chances at these schools?

Weighted GPA: 4.4 (I think it will go up to a 4.5 with my AP classes this year). I have all A's throughout highschool.

Standardized tests: I haven't taken the SAT or ACT yet, I'm taking them later this year. I also plan to take two SAT subject tests.

Extracurriculars: Club and school Varsity soccer (will be the captain next year)
Model UN
Young Democrats Club
Treasurer of National Art Honor Society chapter of my school
Starting an internship with an international relations professor at a local university
Coach of middle school soccer team
National Gold Key in Scholastics Arts and Awards for Photography

I'm also a member of the National Honor Society and the Mu Alpha Theta math honor society.

What effect will the suspension have on my chances of getting into these schools? I know schools like Stanford may not be an option, but what about the others?

Thanks

I would try and make the most of your suspension by writing about it in your college essays and saying how you benefitted and are a better person as a result of the tough experience. It will vary from college to college whether or not they choose to accept you based on the suspension.

Well, most private schools such as Stanford that use the CommonApp would most likely be a no, because there is a portion your school counselor must complete and report, and he/she would have to talk about the suspension. So they would 100% know for sure you did drugs.

I don’t believe this is the case for the UCs though, so you might be ok. I could be wrong.

And do yourself a favor, don’t even bother applying if you are going to use language like “assuming it never happens again”. It better NEVER EVER happen again if you want to go to any of these schools.
