Hello,

I would extremely appreciate if you guys could give me your insight on this!!

I am planning to major in Economics, and I am aiming to transfer to UC Berkeley. However..I couldn't get into the macroeconomics class this semester at my community college...and I am currently applying to transfer for Fall 2015. That means ..if I take macroeconomics next semester..I would be missing...microeconomics. What do I do?? I am currently freaking out..because I just found out that I can't take micro through the UC Berkeley Extension..because their department won't accept it. Worst case scenario..I am planning to take macro and micro at the same time next semester...

Econ is impacted. The more pre-reqs you’ve completed, the stronger an applicant you’ll be. If a major has a lot of pre-reqs then missing one may be okay, and some UCs/majors are less picky than others. But Econ at Cal is impacted, and it only has 5 pre-reqs, so missing one could really hurt you.

The website[/url">https://www.econ.berkeley.edu/undergrad/prospective/transfer-students"]website says “All five classes (or their equivalent) must be completed prior to acceptance to the major and all must be taken for a letter grade.” So, if I had to guess your chances are very very low if you’re missing a class. Keep in mind that you’ll have to take 2 more pre-reqs your first Fall at Berkeley (Stats and Econ 100/101 A/B), get good grades, and petition for your major, so adding a third class to that already stressful situation is probably a bad idea.

I would suggest taking the class at your CC if you can.

Thank you so much for the reply! I really appreciate it!!
