Can I switch my major now??

So I got into Berkeley for Pre Business in College of Letters and Science. I was planning on applying for Haas but I kinda switched my mind. If I dont get into Haas, it kinda sucks/ im screwed and I have to switch my major to Economics. The thing is, im decently smart but im that THAT smart enough to deal with extreme competition. The problem with that is, im scared that since its a large university i wont be able to enroll into the classes I need in order to graduate. But I really need to graduate in 4 years because Im out of state with an international citizenship -my family cant pay for the tuition for over 4 years.

Im thinking of switching majors before I start my freshman year, and I was thinking of something along the lines of International relations or Political Economy. What are some great majors out there that will be flexible and beneficial in life?

You don’t have to change anything. Everyone in L&S is admitted as Undeclared and you just have to declare by the end of your sophomore year I believe.

You don’t need to panic that much. It’s possible to work with an adviser to work out a plan where you can try to do pre-haas with political economy as back up. In fact, a lot of people do this route in Berkeley and I don’t think they have that much of a problem with getting classes as most lower division classes accept a lot of people before closing up.

Most people can easily graduate in four years. If you were to wait until your junior year to select a very different major where you had completed almost none of the pre-reqs, you might run into trouble, but generally not a problem.
