Hi everybody! I was accepted into American University into the CLEG program at the School of Public Affairs. Also, I received a 10k scholarship. However, I feel like I want to major in IR, so I think I want to try to switch to SIS. I don’t pick classes for a little while, so do I switch schools then or…? How would I go about switching from public affairs to international service school keeping the 10k scholarship? Thank you!

Switching schools at AU is relatively easy so you shouldn’t have a problem. I would advise you to first check if your scholarship is dependent on you staying in SPA or being a CLEG major and get that confirmed if you don’t know. Then, I’d try to contact AU Admissions and see if they can switch you over to SIS so you can enroll in SIS courses for the fall.

Oh ok thanks for the info. Also, is it possible for me to major in international studies and minor in international business even though they are in different schools?

Yes, that is completely possible. I’m not an academic adviser, but I encourage you to take your general education courses and major courses before you start to mix in your minor courses. Anyways, that won’t be important to you until your third or fourth year so you have a lot of time to think about minors. I wouldn’t worry too much.

Also, when you meet with your SIS Undergraduate Adviser at the beginning of the school year, if you’re interested, inquire about the BSBA double major in International Studies and Business Administration.
