Can I take a class or 2 over the summer and get credit?

Hey guys, I am transferring in the Fall from a 4 year college. I am sure i will lose some credits in the transfer process, so I wanted to know If I could take a few classes at my local community college like calculus and have them transfer over for my gen ed requirements(majoring in HOD).

I’m sure somebody at Peabody could give you a reliable answer. My suspicion is the answer will depend on the community college in question. Give them a call before you spend the money and the time on cc courses because somebody on an anonymous message board gave you the OK.

The best person to talk to is the transfer credit person in the Registrar’s office. The A&S TC person was a huge help to us last year.

I had to leave a message. Before I enroll I will make sure I get the OK. In general though, does Vanderbilt allow students to take a few summer courses at their local CC?

“Students enrolled in the College o fo Arts and Science may receive transfer credit for a maximum of two courses taken during summers at another four-year, fully accredited institution. To qualify for such credit, the student must be in good standing and must obtain authorization fromthe Dean and the appropriate department in advance of taking the course. Such courses cannot fulfill the CPLE requirements, count as part of the last 30 hours of residence, serve as repeat credit, or be taken on a pass-fail basis.”

This is from the Registrar’s website.

Basically, you cannot use transfer credit to fulfill graduation requirements unless you are using them to fulfill total hours.

(No effect on AXLE).
