Due to freshman year slackness and other factors,

I am a semester behind in my academic progress.

As a result, I want to take summer school this summer in order to catch up, 2 classes per session, 2 sessions.

That will take up the whole summer.

I am a junior standing this year, the question is, can I take this summer off?

I am a finance major +international studies major at a non-target no-name state school, GPA 3.55( mostly due to a bad Freshman year), likely will improve to 3.6ish after summer school.

I have 1 summer analyst type offer right now at a hedge fund for the summer. This is due to a past business friend referral.

So question, is it a good idea to take summer school and skip the offer?

Unless the offer is something you can take in the future, if you hope to work in this industry, accept the offer while it’s hot in your hands. Top kids from targets are having trouble finding internships this year. I’d take the classes later, you can often delay a job offer for a few months, especially at HF’s where there are usually no formal training programs.

Take the offer and make it up during the academic year. 4 classes? you have 3 years to complete it. My rec, take the offer and take the 4 classes junior/senior year. Focus on bringing up your gpa as high as possible until junior year internships and if you get an offer, see about extending it, or adding on 2 classes your senior year.

What’s one more course? really? per semester
