I was planning on taking both SAT subject tests: Maths Level 1 and 2. Can I do that?

Yep, I did this last June. If you’re sending them to colleges, they just want to see one of those, though (usually math 2).

Thanks @LAMuniv :)

If you take both in the same setting, only 1 test will be graded.

@Eggyolk I mean I cannot take both of them? Could you please elaborate?

Yes you could techically, but they aren’t that helpful in terms of admissions since they overlap a large maority of topics. My suggestion is take math II if you feel ready for it and focus on a subject test in another subject you feel strong in

@Eggyolk I took them both in the same sitting, and both were graded.

Why would you take both? Colleges really prefer to see Math 2, I think. And ideally a good score in something other non-math subject as well.

@intparent I have scores besides math (I will only be sending math 2 and probably lit) but I took both just in case I happened to get a better score on math 1. I’m future humanities major, so while colleges would still prefer to see math 2 from me, I figured that if I did very well on the math 1 and bombed the math 2, I could always just send in the math 2. Luckily, I did better on math 2 (790), so I won’t have worry about sending math 1 instead :)

@LAMuniv I’m applying for humanities as well and plan to take World History along with Math 1 & 2. What would you recommend me to do? I am also gonna take them together in December. Should I skip Math 1?

Here is what my guidance counselor told me: If you are at a high enough level to succeed at Math II then there is no point in taking Math I. If you are at a calculus level of mathematics, you should be taking math II for sure.

@ElisaMJones If you want to do what I did and take both maths, them you can do that, but honestly I would probably do math 2. I’ve done math through calc BC and I felt really confident on math 1 and only somewhat confident on math 2, and I ended up doing better on math 2 just because of the curve (760 on math 1 and 790 on math 2). It’s up to you, but I think you’re safe not taking math 1 because the curve on math 2 is so great (you can miss like 8 questions and get an 800, whereas with math 1 if you miss like 2 you’re already down 10 points or so).

@LAMuniv thanks a lot! are you a high school student?

I just graduated high school this June, but I took the test as a senior (I’m applying to college this fall during my gap year)

Oh same here! Best of luck @LAMuniv :)

Thanks, you too! :)
