can i take humanistic traditions 2 without 1? freshman

After freshman orientation I went to register for my summer classes and every class I wanted for the summer was taken so I ended up just choosing humanistic traditions 2. Is it ok for me to enter into the second level if I haven't taken the first, is there anything I should know before I get there? Also, would you recommend taking this class as first time college student? Thanks!

It doesn’t sound like you are setting yourself up for success by taking 2 first. Humanistic Traditions 1 has 3 parts to it and 3 separate books. I would imagine taking 2 would be an extension to that course, but I could be wrong. Keep trying and be persistent every morning to see if any classes that you wanted have opened up. I know a few students who were able to get into classes that were originally filled that way. Good Luck!

HUM 2210 - Humanistic Tradition I has one available seat. Hopefully it is still there by the time you read this. You should constantly check myUCF for classes since students are always dropping classes and rearranging their schedule. Actually, both my summer classes were full when I went to orientation, but I was eventually able to catch them when there was a seat available.

Also, there are several Gen. Ed. classes open for summer B that you can take:

AMH 2010 - U.S. History: 1492-1877
ANT 2000 - General Anthropology
ARH 2050 - History of Western Art I
FIL 1000 - Cinema Survey (1 seat left… this class has been full all summer)
FIL 2030 - History of Motion Pictures
MUH 2017 - Survey of Rock Music
MUL 2010 - Enjoyment of Music
REL 2300 - World Religions
SYG 2000 - Introduction to Sociology
THE 2000 - Theatre Survey

Almost all of these classes are no where close to being full. You have plenty of options… you just have to decide what you want to take.

Anthropology has a highly rated professor teaching that class too, more so than the Sociology professor, if that helps.

The course you have mention is one that falls under the Golden Rule and you will be required to do alot of writing in only 6 weeks. I would suggest you look into a different course since this is your first semester and it is compact.

Thanks for your suggestions, I decided to switch into the last space for humanistics 1!
I really appreciate all the help!

I hope I will do ok with all the writing- I will of course visit the writing lab when I need help.

I plan on taking HUM 2230 as dual enrollment for the fall semester. So are you guys saying that’s a bad choice? I though it’d be more interesting than HUM 2210…
