Can I take math classes at a different college?

I was gonna go to Los Angeles City College this Fall, and the one class I NEED to get into this fall is Trigonometry, so I can take Precalc during Spring 11 which is the lowest UC transferable math class. If I take Precalc during Spring 11 I'll have a shot at transferring to the TAGable UCs by 2012. (right? im not entirely sure) I just finished Intermediate Algebra at IRVINE VALLEY COLLEGE, and in most colleges, its Int. Algebra > Trig > Precalc.

However, the LACC counselor told me that their math dept. is different: Int. Algebra > COLLEGE GEOMETRY > Trig > Precalc. i've never taken college geometry. Since LACC doesnt have summer school, This means ill have to take Geometry this fall and Precalc during Fall 11, delaying my transfer even further.

But, the other college I was thinking about going to, Santa Monica College, doesnt require college geometry. It's the standard Algebra > Trig > Precalc. that way the problem of "college geometry" wouldnt be a problem anymore. Would i be allowed to take only math classes at SMC while taking everything else at LACC, since SMCs math dept. isnt so restrictive?

i don't think i'll be able to go to SMC fulltime because a lot of their classes are already full and the commute is a b!tch (i live in the Koreatown area of LA)

if this wont work.......any other suggestions/ideas? im in such a crappy position right now.

and this is happening because my sudden unplanned move to LA. i literally had 2 weeks to pack my bags and move from Irvine to LA, in case you're wondering why i didnt know this stuff sooner.

You can attend two colleges at once. You don’t have to be full-time in either college.

it wouldnt be considered shady to only do math at a different college because of differing math departments…right?

no, i did my math at a completely different college and the UCs saw no problem with it.

wow thanks that helps alot. did you get into a UC yet? which one? if you dont mind me asking

Hey I am pretty sure that at Glendale College taking college algebra and trigonometry is the same as precal

College Algebra>>Trigonometry>>Calculus 1
or
Precalculus (You have to test into)>>Calculus 1

You might want to check out other colleges or online classes.
