Can I take summer courses at another college?

I’m an International Student and still confused about the North American system. I heard it’s possible to take summer courses at another college, although I’m not enrolled at that college?

And the more important question for me: When do I need to apply for this and how? Do I just apply at the college where I want to take summer courses, as if I wanted to study there competely (but I want to return to my college after the summer courses)? Or is it an extra application? And when do I generally have to apply for summer courses 2017? Thank you

Also, do they look at the high school grades or the college grades when considering applications for summer courses? The problem is, my high school grades aren’t so great but my college GPA is awesome.

What college are you currently attending and what are the college(s) you are interested in taking summer courses?

I won’t say my college (fairly small) because I’m scared someone will know who I am on here but I’m planning to take courses at the University of Victoria, in British Columbia, Canada. I’ve looked at BCtransfer credit and the courses I want to take would be transferable. I just don’t know how to apply…do I apply like a normal student?

Yes. However, the question really needs to be: Will your home college accept the transfer credit. The answer to that is: it depends; you need to ask your college.

Summer school is often conducted by the university’s continuing education division. The application process is not nearly as daunting as the freshman application process, and most take pretty much anybody who can pay.

Anyway, all colleges will have the application info posted on their websites.

Thanks and does anyone know how long summer courses are on average? I wanted to invite my mum and show her Canada at the end June for two weeks and I’m scared I can’t. Are summer courses the whole summer from May to the end of August or are they shorter?

Many are 6 to 8 week sessions. Again consult the specific school’s website for further information.
