I only have 61 units, and I know the limit is 70. Can i still take classes at my cc and have the uniit count toward UC??

Definitely, you’ll just need to submit official transcripts twice.

Once after Spring grades and once after summer.

@Matt4200 cool I figured I want to transfer some extra units

I just need to see if I can still at my cc to my fasfa, so I won’t have to pay for my classes.

Do you get the BOG waiver?

@Matt4200 i only get it because at my cc as long as you apply for fasfa you get it automatically

My advice is to take summer session only if you are taking classes that are fulfilling you major requirements. Taking random classes just so you can transfer in 60 units vs 70 units will not necessarily help you as much.

@Dagoberto there chicano studies classes, I am a History major but there the history of classes. So i thought they would be fun they usually fill up fast.

I also thought having 2 extra classes would help toward the 180 unit req. As it is now I would have to take 12 the first quarter and 16 units for the other quarters. If im not incorrect which i might be, these classes would give me enough units to have a chance to only take 12 units for 3 quarters instead of just 1 quarter

Plus I cant afford UCLA summer session my efc is over the summer cost of attendance

While at my school id oay under $300

I know many chicano majors who decide to double major (minor and double minor) in something else and want to take a 3rd year (sometimes 4th). In those cases, UCLA caps your units at 215 (you get kicked out if you go over) so bringing more units could be a negative thing.

However if you want to graduate ASAP, then your strategy is good. you are right Summer School is super expensive.

@Dagoberto I do want to graduate in 2 years. last fall I had planned on having 67 units but dropped two courses now I feel like I should make up for it.

Im not to sure if 16 units a qaurter is a lot for me, being married and working will be hard. So i want to try to have a couple of qaurters were i only take 12 units

If you want to graduate in 2 years then your strategy works. Is just that the majority of people like to take 3 years. I have spouse and kids, so I agree that the sooner we are gone the better.

The good thing is that once you transfer only 60 quarter units have to be upper-division
http://www.ugeducation.ucla.edu/counseling/upper-div-unit.html

BTW, are you coming to Transfer Raza Day? I strongly encourage you come

@Dagoberto cool so the other units left can be used for electives or a minor/double major?

the 60 units requirement is just for upper-division, regardless of the major… so actually you can even be more flexible. Yes, There is definitely room for flexibility

hey can you guys fill me in on this? i will be starting ucb in the fall as an econ major. i don’t plan to move up there until early august so this talk of taking more cc classes to graduate earlier is interesting. as of now, after spring semester at cc, i will have 80 units including ap credit from high school (68 without). is that too many to be thinking of taking more cc classes?

@Dell15 i believe you won’t be able to, the max units you can transfer from cc is 70.

@dell15 As mentioned before, you can only transfer 70 units so there is no benefit in taking more classes unless you need lower division classes that satisfy your major.

@Dell15 - You will still receive subject credit for meeting requirements but your unit total that is transferring over will be maxed out at 70

thanks guys. I just realized. it’s like duhh that’s what the 70 unit limit is for lol
