I placed out of WRT 101.

Can I take WRT 102 in the spring or do I have to take WRT 102 during my first semester?

Can I take WRT 102 in the spring or do I have to take WRT 102 during my first semester?

You will take it Spring semester. I also believe it is only offered Spring semester.

WRT 102 is offered in large numbers during every semester, but it’s hard to get into it during the fall semester as an incoming freshman without advanced registration (honor’s college, university scholars, WISE).

You can take it whenever you want, but it’s best to get it out of the way because it will help you with papers you have to write in other classes. Last year I had an early orientation date and all the WRT 102 classes were already full.

We’ve changed the 102 a lot this year, bumping a lot more students directly into it. As such, there should be plenty of space.

That said, if you want to wait until spring to do WRT 102, you can certainly do that, as long as you understand it could impact other classes that may have WRT 102 as a prerequisite. If you’re a science/math/engineering person, it’s probably not the end of the world, but if you’re doing anything humanities-related, it’s probably best to get your DEC A (Writing) out of the way immediately.
