I Just Got My GED & Really Want To Know Can I Transfer After 1 Year Of CC? I Would Really Like To Go Ahead & Get To A Four Year College But I Know I Need Some Time In CC , How Long Do I Have To Wait Before I Transfer?
Ideally, you should earn an Associate degree to transfer, which would take about 2 years, going full-time. Many universities have transfer agreements with community colleges, provided the students earn an Associate degree. Having said that, you can transfer whenever you want, as long as a university is willing to accept you. Given that you have a GED, you probably don’t have a very good and/or complete high school transcript, so I would say that you need to take at least a solid year of coursework with good grades, to demonstrate that you are fully capable of college-level work. The advantage of the Associate degree is that the transfer institution will not pay much (if any) attention to your high school career.
