I’m just wondering if I can still be accepted into a UC without completing all major requirements. I am a psych major that will be applying to a few UCs and have completed the major requirements for UCI, UCSB, and UCR. However, UCLA and UCSD’s requirements are little different and I will not be able to complete two classes that are for their major.
Can I still be accepted at these schools without those two classes? Should I still apply to UCLA and UCSD?
I am going to go out on a limb and ask whether you are referring to prerequisites rather than requirements. I believe that both of those universities outline “psychology prerequisites” rather than “requirements”.
A prerequisite is required to be officially invited into a major program after transfer. Completion of prerequisites is weighed alongside GPA, GE, and other aspects of the application. All prerequisites not required prior to transfer unless the department website for the major specifically states that class “X” and “Y” are required. They will SPECIFICALLY stated that. Otherwise, it is a major requirement. Not a transfer requirement.
I don’t believe that any UC psychology program is that strict given that the applicant is competitive in other ways, unless they were missing the most basic psych prereqs.
You’re probably fine for UCSD. I got in with two Math classes missing. For UCLA, don’t even bother applying if you haven’t finished the pre-req classes.
If it says required for admissions into major then you must finish or have completed before transcripts from Spring are due. I got into my major missing two major requisites for UCLA which weren’t indicated as required.
You can still be accepted but the likelihood of doing so falls quite a bit for UCLA.
Don’t even worry about UCSD, their transfer process cares pretty much zilch about your major preparation.
If, however, it says that it’s a REQUIREMENT then yes, it must be completed. These are usually courses that are necessary to put you in upper division standing once you transfer.
If your major has that, you should complete everything or they won’t accept you. That’s what my counselor said as due to the overwhelming applicants to UCSD, classes for sophomores are being filled up more by transfers who left some classes to take post transfer. She also said she asked the UCs, what about the students who took classes before this change, and they replied that everyone will follow the same procedure if they’re applying for Fall 2017 and afterwards. I wouldn’t tell you not to try though but keep it in mind if your major lists that.
