I decided to attend a community college my first year instead of going to a four year straightaway for personal reasons but I am ultimately so ready to transfer. NYU is one of the top schools I wish to transfer to and I noticed they have a Spring 2020 transfer application. By the time my application is due (Nov 1) I will still be in the middle of my first semester as a college student. I called admissions and asked if the Spring option was for students who already completed a year and the answer was that “the strongest candidates have already completed a year but you can still apply”. I honestly don’t know if I trust that answer as it came from a student ambassador that had to put me on hold several times because she seemed iffy about answering.
My second question is that does anyone know if I can apply to first Spring, and just say I get rejected could I then apply for a regular Fall admission?
You really should apply with Fall grades, ie., For Fall 2020 not Spring – unless you graduated top of your class with a 1450 Sat and top ec’s, you wouldn’t have a shot.
In addition, if you applied before and were denied you need to apply for Fall 2021 to build a different, stronger profile.
Finally, you shouldn’t put all our eggs in one basket - create a reasonable list.
What’s your budget? Your EFC ?
Are you attending a SUNY or CUNY CC?
What was your final unweighted GPA from high school? What were your ACT or SAT test scores? What is your budget? Can you afford 3 1/2 years at NYU without taking on debt?
Which state are you from, and are you in community college in that state?
Has community college even started yet? I am guessing that you have not even had your first class in community college.
I have already had my first week at community college. and i do not have a budget i went to community for family reasons but it is not an issue anymore. i am from california and my unweighted gpa from high school was a 3.8 and i attended a private boarding school. i received a 28 on my act.
Middle 50 on the ACT for NYU is 30-34. I presume you know that your ACT score will be taken into account if you apply before you’ve completed a year of CC, so that won’t be in your favor.
NYU also says “Our most competitive applicants have completed at least 32 credits/points of coursework by the time they enroll at NYU.” but you need at least 24. Would you have that in one semester?
According to PrepScholar, the average GPA at NYU is 3.66, but the average ACT is 31. This suggests that your high school stats are at least competitive.
If you are okay with being full pay for 3 1/2 years, then you could send in an application and see what happens. If you don’t get in this time you can always reapply later. I don’t think that applying and being turned down for spring 2020 would make any difference to your chances for fall 2020.
However, given the quality of the in-state public schools in California, you would be spending a LOT of money to attend NYU rather than something in-state.
“i do not have a budget”
Does this mean that your parents are fine with paying $250,00 for 3 1/2 years, or does this mean that you do not know whether there is any budget issue?
Have you visited NYU?
I might add: Work hard to keep your GPA up while you are in community college. Expect classes to get harder as the semester continues. The better that you do in your current classes, the more likely your chances will be to transfer. Straight A’s now will help you down the road.
The bigger question, can you afford to go to NYU? That’s a school that’s not well known for generous financial aid. Don’t be in too much of a hurry. Just take classes, get good grades, and choose a school based on what you know you can afford.
everyone keeps talking about money here, and i stated i dont have a budget lol. i can afford nyu. i just want people to answer the questions ive asked. thanks
Does your keyboard have a caps lock? Your posts would be easier to read, and may get more responses, if you take the trouble to use proper capitalization.
A week ago your family issues led you to begin college at a CA cc but this week they’re resolved and your family is committed to paying $280k for you to attend NYU? If that’s the case then apply. The worst that happens is that you get rejected.
They are answering your questions. It sounds like you just don’t care for the answers. Your ACT is on the low side for NYU and you won’t have the number of transfer credits you need to apply after only one semester at a cc. You can apply for Spring 2020 but I wouldn’t count on getting accepted. If you’re rejected you can reapply for Fall 2021 but you’d have to beef up your app. The application that doesn’t get you admitted for Spring 2020 won’t get you accepted for Fall 2020.
