Depends on the college.

Some colleges, such as the CSU and UC system would automatically disqualify a student for not having completed the required English composition classes. However, even colleges without that specific requirement are going to take a long look at a transfer student who has not passed a comp class yet. Exceptions might be made for a student who has passed a comp class and the failed one was an extra elective–but even in that case, the college needs to be able to look past an F on the transcript.

So, I would say an F in a comp class is a pretty big red flag for most colleges, even less competitive ones. Best bet is to retake it for a passing grade asap.

Can we take English Pass/No Pass even though the UCs require us to take the minimum grade of “C”? You should retake the class and get a better grade.
