hi, i applied to ut in October and still waiting for the decision.
when i applied to ut i was in top 10% but not in 8%.
but i find out today that i am in top 8%
if i send my new class rank do u guys think ut will use my new rank and reconsider?
to be honest my sat score is not enough to get into ut..
but i heard that ut really cares about the class rank.. ..

I think you would just have to send an updated transcript.

Automatic admission is determined by rank at the end of junior year. In other words, if you’re a Texas student in the top 8% of your class at the end of your junior year, you’re entitled to automatic admission. Everyone else–Texas non-top 8%, Texas non-ranking, OOS and international–is subject to admission via holistic review. Unfortunately, if you’re a Texas student from a ranking school and you move into the top 8% during senior year, your admission status doesn’t change to “auto admit.”

However, moving from 10% to 8% shows a pretty significant improvement and could help your chances of admission. I would definitely let UT know ASAP. Their Admission Office is saying all decisions will be made by Feb. 15.

Monday, request an updated transcript. Whether your school sends it for you or gives it to you to send, there is the time associated with snail mail + the time at UT for your incoming mail to be processed and the transcript put in your admission file and noticed by an admission officer. So also on Monday, after confirming arrangements for the transcript, you should email your UT admission officer telling them about your grades/rank jump and advising them to watch for the updated transcript to arrive via snail mail. (If your HS gave you the transcript to mail, I would scan and PDF it to attach to your email so UT has instant semi-official proof pending receipt of the actual transcript.)

ohhhh i see!! thank u sooooooo much for help this really help me alot!! thank you!

well… unfortunately my school can’t sent my new transcript till first week of feb…
i talked to ut admission person today , i find out that there is really no way they can accept my late transcript but this lady told me that if i apply to spring semester i can be auto if my senior rank is in 8%. but i am really confused now does that mean they will use my first semester of my senior rank ? when she told me about srping semester admission i didnt really care about what she said cuz i was so frustrated that fact that i can’t sent my new transcript but now i feel like i should consider this too. i didnt ask her more about this so i am not sure if what i heard was right… is this really gonna work?

Yeah they aren’t taking updated transcripts beyond January 31st. ):

I’m sorry I can’t tell you much more than that, but that’s just what I know. Try not to stress too much, alright? If your SAT scores were a little lacklustre but you had good rank, ECs, essays, rigorous courses, etc. it may balance out and still get you accepted!

Best of luck (:

bff4ever, are you from a Texas ranking school? If “yes,” go talk to your counselor. They can explain everything. Basically, the UT lady was saying, if you don’t get in for Fall 2011, your senior 8% rank might qualify you as an auto admit for Spring 2012. That’s not necessarily a bad thing–you could take a break and start fresh next Jan. or you could get some core classes under your belt at another school next fall, then start at UT in Jan. (you’d want to be sure those classes transferred). Either way, for Spring 2012 admission, you’d probably have to apply again…unless you learn they will hold this app and supplement it with your final senior transcript. (I think you would have to remain in top 8% through graduation to qualify for auto admit in Spring 2012.)

If you’re not from a Texas ranking school, then you are a holistic review admit, and your class rank is not determinative.

Good luck! I hope you hear good news so all of this is moot!

thank you so much for help yeah i think applying for sprimg semester is good idea too.
i never thought that will work but i guess it really does work
i hope they can just use my 1 semester of senior rank but if not i will work more harderlol
