Can I use a mechanical pencil on the ACT?

I am taking the ACT this weekend, and I like using a mechanical pencil so much more than I like using a “regular” yellow pencil. I know it doesn’t make a difference on my score, but it’s just a comfort thing? Help?

@99achan please Google it. I found the answer in 10 seconds.

there is no real difference (at least in my point of view), but again, I’ve never taken my chances. Bring a mechanical pencil and a normal one for bubbling.

And don’t yell.

HELP!

Test instructions typically specify 2B pencil lead. Mechanical pencil leads typically comes as “H” grade rather than “B” grade. “B” is softer and darker in tone than “H”.

By using a lighter tone pencil, you run the risk of bubble scanning inaccuracy. With a harder pencil you run the risk of difficulty in erasing.

The ACT website says that you should NOT use a mechanical pencil: http://www.actstudent.org/testprep/tips/

Actually it says to use Number 2 pencil which is HB.

2B pencils would be softer than # 1, too soft.
It is a little confusing to compair # grade with H to B lead grade of German or Japanese pencils.
DS likes 0.9mm #2 (HB) mechanical pencils, but I think it would take longer to bubble with it than with a blunted pencil.
