I don't see why not, its open ended on the common app, I was just wondering if some schools would be ****ed off or what that I just c/p'd an essay.

they won't even know. just make sure you scrap anything UChicago-specific.

Well, UChicago's prompts are pretty interesting, I'm sure other colleges would be able to tell. Dunno about the original question, though, sorry.

Most schools know other top colleges prompt, including the UC. As long as the essay fits the prompt, I don't see why not.

I was most concered about what artherbella mentioned, UoC's prompts are so different than the rest of the admissions worlds prompts that I'm sure that it would easy to tell that it was originally for there. But as long as it gives the admissions staff some idea of who I am does it really matter?

I don't think it matters. As long as the essay gives you a clear picture of who you are, it wouldn't hurt you.

I don't think it's a problem at all-- the common app prompts are designed to be pretty bland and formless anyway, and if schools wanted students to write a different essay for their school, they ask students for it in the supplementals.

yeah, its fine to do that. i think that quite a few students do.
