Ok so I’ve got aid for my CURRENT university but I want to take summer classes at a community college this year.
They told me to add their school code to my fafsa but my question is this: will the aid I get from the community college be completely separate from the aid I get from my current university? I don’t want to use up the the money that’s meant to be for the school I’m currently attending.
You can aid their school code to your FAFSA, but it may impact the aid you get from your current university. What year in college are you? I would suggest you go into the financial aid office and ask them how they do their packaging and let them know you want to attend summer courses at a community college. You may also want to talk to your academic adviser about this as well. Some colleges have rules that do not allow students to transfer community college courses after beginning enrollment at a university so it could end up being a waste of time and money.
go into the FA office and ask those questions.
You can only receive financial aid from ONE college…and it has to be the one where you are pursuing a degree.
I don’t believe you will be a matriculated student at the CC. So, you cannot get need based aid from them.
Having said that, there are some colleges with relationships with CCs that allow students to take courses there. But usually this is not for the summer term.
Ok I’ll check with my schools FA department and find out. Thanks!
