Like say I wanted to go to a 18+ concert/event/club, will they let me in through my college ID? I mean I don't have any other form of ID to carry around with me since I've still haven't managed to get my license....and I won't be carrying around my passport or anything like that. Any thoughts?

Unless your birth date is on your ID (unlikely), you can’t use it to prove you’re a certain age. People under 18 do attend college, so clubs/concerts/events that have a minimum age requirement can’t let you in unless you have a photo ID with birth date. If you don’t have your license yet, just get a state ID card.

Ah I guess I can do that before I move in, thank you

Getting student half-priced entrees at Qdoba, duh!

You can get a state ID if you don’t have a license.

Whoa now! How do I get this? Do I need a coupon or something?

Discounts at the movies!

Get a State ID or if your state allows it, get a learner’s permit. In my state, anyone 18+ can get a learner’s permit provided that they pass the written exam required for a driver’s license.

Student IDs can be used for discounts and often as ID when your age is not relevant to the situation ie using a credit card or picking up a package.

You can get 10% off Sunday through Thursday at Thrifty Shopper.

Yeah get an ID card. It’s a license minus the driving privileges. Only costs like 7 bucks or something in my state.

Student ID generally only works when you need to prove you’re a student. Stores around campuses usually give student discounts or free drinks with student ID etc.

Student discounts. I recently went to Barnes and Nobles college bookstore and got a 10% discount just by showing my college id. You might even find a place to eat nearby your campus and also get a discount. I remember I got a 10% discount for a haircut at a salon near my campus. Great opportunities to save money!

Some theatres will give student discounts if you have your ID.

Get a state ID for official documentation… but a college ID will get you student discounts at places that offer them.

Thanks for the suggestions, I am concerned that I am going to be 17 for most of my freshman year and won’t be able to go out to 18+ events, was kinda hoping by presenting a college ID people would assume im 18+

18+ is more a social barrier than a legal one, with drinking age being 21. They may cut you some slack because you’re in college, they may not. My advice is simple. Have a backup plan. If you’re going somewhere and it says 18+, call first and see, and even if they say it’s ok, have a ride or other transport lined up in case it falls through.

No 18 is actually the single biggest legal barrier in your life.

Under 18 is considered minor status, which means your parents are legally and financially responsible for everything in your life. Once you turn 18, you can:

-legally sign contracts without your parents
-vote in all federal, state, and local elections
-legally consent to sex (depending on your state)
-open a bank account in your own name and apply for credit in your own name
-be legally tried as an adult
-own property
-sue someone
-purchase cigarettes and lottery tickets
-gamble legally in some states
-join the military
-get married without parental consent

Some theatres give student discounts. Just check online to find what places do. My ID card also doubles as a bus pass. Its 15 dollars that just comes right out of tuition. So you might as well use it since you pay for it.

discounts, some identification purposes

Movie discounts. I got $5 on this really expensive movie theater. Pretty pumped lol

No.

Experience.

I went home for the weekend, but I accidentally left all of my IDs here except my college ID. Anyways, my friend and I planned to see a movie at the dollar theatre, and their rule is that after 6, you must be at least 16 to see a movie there. I went and they asked for my ID, but I was like, “I only have my college ID” and showed it to her and they wouldn’t accept it because it didn’t have my date of birth on it. >-<

I wanted to see a PG-13 movie too. It was so annoying. But I had seen it twice already and my friend had already seen it three times, so not like a huge disappointment or anything.
