Can I use my Common App Essay?

I really don’t want to have to write another essay, so I’m thinking about replying to the “Tell us a story from your life, describing an experience that either demonstrates your character or helped to shape it” with the essay I wrote for the common app.
My common app essay is very good, and it demonstrates my character very well. However, the way it is structured is not one specific experience/story, rather just multiple examples of things that have happened throughout my life that demonstrate my character.

I’m hoping I can just use this essay, as I feel like colleges just want the essay to answer the question “who are you?”, and if it does you’re fine.

I have pretty good stats, so I was hoping this wouldn’t be a big deal.

How important is it that my essay answers the prompt exactly?

I used my common app essay as well (I’m a prospective fall 2016 freshman). In visiting their admissions meetings, it seems that just addressing who you are and how you will best contribute to their diverse campus is acceptable. Including something about diversity or how you’ve experienced it may help your case too.
