like, can I say "that's gay" as an example to prove a point?

i wouldn't use that particular phrase.

OP said that he's posting a point - what was the point you were going to make? I think that it depends on the context.

I think it would be totally fine if you were quoting someone to make a point, and you probably wouldn't include the word/s if it didn't serve a significant purpose, so admissions people would realize that.

I would avoid that. I mean this is your chance to show what you can do for writting and "that's gay" is the best you can do? ( I know it's not, but what about the admissions people?)

CONTEXT!

The OP said that he is writing it to prove a point! As long as it fits and makes sense, it's okay I think.

The original poster said that he is using it to prove a point. As long as he uses quotes and makes it CLEAR that he does not endorse the use of such undeveloped language, it is fine. The reader just needs to know that he doesn't believe in using such a phrase.

Something like, "My ignorant obnoxious neighbor said 'that's so gay' when he learned I was applying to art school." That would be okay!

You should avoid that. Talking about your personality and how it would effect the college would be better tahn using a profanity for a hook.

mmmmm. i don't know.
