I got 4 for AP statistics. According to Biology Department website, a Bio science major requires Calculus I and Calculus II or Statistics and DUKE allow to AP credits, I am wondering whether I can use my AP statistics to statisfy the requirement for the second Math (MATH 32), as I don't think MATH 32 is useful in the real world.

Didn’t you JUST post saying you have AP credit for Calc II, making this thread unnecessary?

Your AP Stats score can’t replace any course, your AP score is too low for any credit, even Stats 10. You need a 5 to get credit

Math 32 is Calc BC. I doubt you could get credit for that with AP Stat, no matter your score, just as you wouldn’t get credit for Chem with AP Bio.

I think that none of the replies address my question. Here is what I found:
According to Trinity policy, one can get credit for MATH32 with Ap Calc BC 4 or 5. However, this does not exempt the student for the requirement for two quantitative classes. Because MATH 32 is the prerequsit for PHYS 53L/54L, a pre-med has to take MATH32, even if it is completely useless in the real world.

Also, although pre-med requires only one quantitative course, but Trinity requires two quantitative courses. For biology major, one of this course has to be calculus I (Math 31), the second can be Calculus II (Math 32) or Statistics 1XX. So if one is not a Bio major or not a pre-med, he/she does not need to take MATH 32, which is killer course as I heard of.

Your initial question was:
I am wondering whether I can use my AP statistics to statisfy the requirement for the second Math (MATH 32), as I don’t think MATH 32 is useful in the real world.

You listed specifically MATH32 and so that’s what we replied to. It’s not our fault that you addressed the questions in a bad way and then say that we didn’t even answer your question. I mean seriously, if you are going to ask a specific question and expect an specific answer that you want, ask a question that is worded in a way where the answerer can answer the question the way you want. You asked about using AP credit to satisfy MATH32 and so we answered that. Then you replied saying that we didn’t answer your question and then started talking about “quantitative classes”. You didn’t even use the words “quantitative classes” in your initial question, how is the reader suppose to know what you are asking? You should reread your question and I guarantee you that our (mine and knat’s) answers satisfy the question you are asking.

Wrong. If you have AP credit for Calc BC/Math 32, you do NOT need to take Math 32 at Duke. Your AP credit will show up on your transcript as Math 32. Yes, you still need two QS credits (AP cannot count towards Areas of Knowledge or Modes of Inquiry), but those QS credits can come from a variety of courses. Statistics courses give you a QS, as do various econ, physics, chem, and bio courses. I’ve even seen some really random courses in random departments like Psychology that give you QS credits.

Going back to your question, as cdz15 pointed out, you need a 5 on AP Stats for it to count for credit. However, if you have Calc BC credit, you’re fine.

“as I don’t think MATH 32 is useful in the real world…”
