My counselor used to work as an admissions officer at the college I’m interviewing at and says that it’s an informal interview. Is it okay to wear black skinny jeans (no holes or rips, very dark black), a nice blouse, and nude flats? I don’t really own any business casual wear and I’m leaving in a few hours.
That sounds perfect to me. A good mix of casual and formal. And it sounds cute!
yep! good luck!
It may depend on the interviewer and the place of the interview. If the interviewer is an investment banker and you will be meeting him/her at the bank, that may call for being more dressy than for many other situations.
It also might depend on the school and the location and what type of interview we are talking about. We went on one “strongly encouraged” admissions interview at a private southeastern school a couple years ago where we were told to dress “comfortably”. All the boys all had jackets and khakis on, and the girls were wearing dresses or skirts. However, I’d describe the typical student style at that college as preppy (think J Crew or Vineyard Vines), so that was “comfortable” for that school. Anyway, I do think what you are wearing should be fine, and your interviewer should be more focused on you than what you are wearing anyway. But I only mention it as I know it would have made my D nervous or self conscious if she saw she was dressed differently than the other kids waiting for their interviews. Does the website or any email communication to you tell you how to dress or give you examples?
This is what we say in the Brown forum interview FAQ thread:
No, but I was fine! It was a really casual interview and other girls had on similar attire.
