Yes, back in third grade I wrote the answer to 8x7 on a slip of paper and put in my desk during a multiplication quiz. I'd like to make this into an essay, to show how even though I was never caught, the event has haunted me and I've never cheated on anything at all since then. Would the admissions people see this as academic dishonesty, regardless of how long ago it ocurred? Is it safe to submit an essay like this?

I think it's fine. I wrote an essay a little like that, too. If you do it well, this could be a very good essay.

i think it's good--very original. it's not like they can hold something against you that you did way back then, especially if you say you've learned from it.

thanks :) If I can pull this one off, it'll cover essays for 7 (yes, count em) of my applications XD

i don't see how this would be an interesting essay..or maybe it just seem lame by the thought...maybe after you write it it'll be good.

its definitely allowed, but I mean how much did you really learn from cheating on a little 3rd grade quiz? even if you learned that cheating is wrong, it seems hard to convince a committee that you learned so much from it...

I don't see how it will show how you are a good prospect for their campus...yes, you learned that cheating is wrong, but I'm sure everyone knows that...its nothing unique and probably done before. I honestly think you should think of something better to write about.

i would strongly suggest that u do not write an essay on this topic. i know it was in third grade, but u know it could put a bad taste in some admission officers' mouths and thats a silly risk to take. its up to you, but from my perspective, if it were me, i sure wouldnt. good luck...

Um...I'd think of a different topic. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

It is his job to make the topic poignant, but it can certainly be done.

well I guess she left out the part that it's going to be a humorous essay. funny. like ha ha.

Can you write an essay about cheating in 3rd grade? Sure. Original topics can turn out great...or not so great. Do you best and write something that when you look at it, you feel confident. I think it's a "safe" (not academic dishonesty) topic. Good luck.
