Can internships be considered extracurricular?

<p>j/w if something like interning at a city hall would be considered EC because that's the stuff i'm really interested in. i want to convey my interests and what i really want to pursue to colleges through my extracurricular activities. i would rather truly enjoy myself and work hard, as opposed to becoming president of every damn club just to make my record look good. </p>

<p>besides martial arts and some other rarities this would likely be my only EC if i went through with this, so what do you think?</p>

<p>I always thought volunteering and work experience were sub-categories of ECs .. if not, what constitutes an EC?</p>
